One of the world's most prominent authorities on starting and growing businesses will travel to Lancashire to help business owners in Rossendale.

US-based Dr Ernesto Sirolli, an expert in sustainable economic development, is the guest of honour at the Valley at Work's 2nd birthday event at Rossendale Golf Club on Tuesday 29th September.

Dr Ernesto Sirolli

Dr Sirolli is the Founder of the Sirolli Institute, an international non-profit body that teaches people how to establish and maintain business projects in different regions across the world.

"We are incredibly lucky to have a speaker of Ernesto's reputation and abilities," said Andy MacNae, PEER Support's Enterprise Facilitator, who works closely with a wide variety of businesses. "Ernesto is an electrifying speaker and his talks attract huge audiences around the globe. Naturally, he is in demand worldwide so it is a real coup for us to get him to speak at our event.

"Businesses that attend the event will have a chance to learn from Ernesto how they can unleash their potential by building winning teams. We would encourage as many Rossendale business people as possible to come to the event. They will get a rare chance to hear one of the most celebrated business speakers in the world."

In fact, a lot of businesses in Rossendale have Ernesto to thank, for Sirolli has long-standing links with the Rossendale business community. He was the spark for PEER Support which works in Rossendale helping growing businesses.

"Ernesto's work is all about getting businesses supported at grassroots level. Although successful in the United States for many years, Rossendale was the first place in the UK that put Ernesto's thinking into practice. PEER Support has both made a huge difference here both by encouraging people in Rossendale to start up their own businesses and then by helping them develop and grow."

Valley at Work is a direct offshoot from PEER Support. Launched in October 2007 in response to requests from for regular networking meetings from people in the area who had used PEER services.

Says Andy: "Thanks to PEER Support a lot of people were starting out in business and we found that there was a real need for something that would bring them together. Valley at Work differs from other business networking groups because it is free to join and members are welcome to use the service as much as they like, for as long as they need, as often as they want."

The regular monthly networking meetings are held at different venues across the area and the group now has more than 150 members.

Adds Andy: "As Valley at Work has evolved it has become a prime source of relevant and practical business information for enterprises in the valley. It is also an opportunity for businesses to build good contacts and learn from experts and peers. People come to Valley at Work because it brings solid business opportunities, valuable information and a range of contacts of long-term value to their business. We are still evolving and growing but our aim is clear. We want Valley at Work to be the network of choice for small businesses based in Rossendale."
